It’s a great way to start their day!

The only thing better than getting to shoot this adorable couple’s engagement session is getting to shoot their wedding in October!   I love working with them – they’re so laid back and in love…..we had a blast shooting these over at Paramount Ranch a couple of weeks ago…. LOVE how nice and green everything is right now!  SoCal really soaks up the rain when we finally get it – just wish it stayed around for summer.

These are just a handful of some of my faves – too many to share, but this gives you a taste!

I’m super stoked about the weddings I have booked for 2015 — I don’t take on too many, since I try and leave my schedule open mostly for my Senior Portraits, but the ones I do accept… I love ;)  Can’t wait to capture Ashtyn and Cody’s amazing day…

Almost Famous | Alexa’s Senior’s Ignite Winning Model Shoot

It’s a great way to start their day!

I’m so excited that in 3 & 1/2 weeks, I’ll be in San Diego at the Senior’s Ignite Event!   I can’t wait to see all my friends…..it’s such a great time – and can’t wait to be a lead shooter again.  We have some seriously killer concept shoots this year!!!  I wish I could say what they are, but I’ve been sworn to secrecy…. Last year, for Devan’s winning model shoot  before the event, we did a “Vegas or Bust” Vintage theme — so in keeping with the travel theme (we even used the very same blue suitcase, circa 1970 – thanks to Jami Cox), I had the idea to do an early 70′s “Almost Famous” (the movie) theme. I absolutely LOVE that movie.  Like….I can’t even.  And I LOVE the early 70′s because, well, that’s when I was born…..so yeah. Seriously though…. Alexa KILLED this look and Jami —- CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE MAKEUP?!!!! omg I wanted to incorporate travel…so I thought we’d take the metrolink from SCV to Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles – we could shoot ON the train and then at Union Station in all of it’s art deco awesomeness – and then head to Olvera Street for some fun.  Anyone who knows me, knows that I don’t really do anything halfway… Now, this is NOT Alexa’s senior portrait session… these shots were meant to be more fashion, more editorial and more “in your face”.  I love trying out new things – and pushing boundaries a bit.   For wardrobe, everything was FreePeople, except the t-shirt at the end — that’s mine… I’ve been waiting for an excuse to use it in a shoot and this was perfect….I wanted to play upon the ridiculousness of it – and really play the theme up and go a little bit over the top with it.  I literally cannot wait to see all the amazing images and outfits San Diego will bring — Alexa is going to have SO much fun!! I think it’s safe to say that I looooooove this shoot.  Everything about it was just amazing  (until we got stuck in DTLA because the train back to SCV was cancelled - so sad.   In the end, we called for reinforcements and were rescued so it all worked out.) This style of shooting is my favorite.

Let me know what you think of these — I’m posting more than I normally would, just because I want to tell the STORY…. it’s meant to be more in-depth than my typical senior portrait work.  I would love to hear your thoughts!

Tech specs: Nikon D800, Nikon 85mm 1.4, Sigma Art 1.4, Westcott IceLights, Adobe Lightroom {only, no photoshop on this}

Be sure and find me on instagram — and snapchat me at @purtywun — I’m always posting behind the scenes, sneak peeks and of course bits and pieces of everyday crazy life – Alexa even did a snapchat takeover on the day of this shoot – THAT was fun. I also recently started using Steller — which I LOVE!!!!  If you haven’t been on there yet, you should check it out — download from the app store.   And you can see Alexa’s story in the story I posted:

I’m finalizing my 2016 Team next week —- if you are interested in finding out more information, fill out the application online and I’ll email you with info. (no information will be public – only upon request) My 2016 SEENteam will have first dibs on session dates – I’m only offering a limited amount of them this year and once they are filled, that’s it — so even if you aren’t interested in being on the Team, you should contact me for session info ASAP to secure a spot. Summer will sell out by mid February. xo, Rinstagram

It’s a great way to start their day!

I have needed to do a FUN shoot for some time now…..Jami and I both have been dying to do something JUST for us — just for fun and to push ourselves creatively.  I got super inspired while at the flower mart in downtown LA and decided to create a massive Christmas themed flower crown.  I put a model call out hoping I’d get a redhead to model for me – and I did :)  Emily is only 16… but she is very mature for her age and literally transformed in front of the camera!!  She was so awesome to work with – Jami and I are obsessed with her amazing hair and could she be more beautiful?!!  OMG!

Collage 1

So – Emily is my “Spirit of Christmas Present” from the Christmas Carol …. a modern take on it.  She was such a trooper and dealt with 2+ hours of hair and makeup and then another hour and 1/2 of being wrapped in garland :o

I shot these in my home studio – so NO natural light at all….wanted to step a little out of my box and do something more fashion/edgy/non-high school senior.  There’s a shot of my set-up in the collage of prep and bts shots below … I used 2 soft boxes and 2 ice lights and a reflector.

Collage 2 Collage 3 Collage 4

I didn’t have time to create an actual tutorial for the crown for you guys this time but you can kind of follow along in the shots and see what I did.  I added more to it once it was on her head……

Here are the final shots ::

The first ones were darker — I wanted to create a moody/dark feel with these….

(and yes, I added snow to some of these because I wanted to create that feel of the books and the movie….)

This is one of my faves:

and then I wanted to get really bright and more fairy-like (because Emily is like….the perfect fairy!)

I would love to hear your thoughts on these…. which ones do you like best?

and if you want to follow the behind the scenes of these shoots, you can find me on Snapchat at purtywun — come join the insanity!  As always, I’d love to hear your feeback.

Thank you, Emily for modeling for me and thank you Jami for amazing hair and makeup, as usual!!!

Hope you all have a very

Merry Christmas!!!

It’s a great way to start their day!

Really can’t say enough good things about this kid.  I mean, young man…..so weird when “kids” you’ve known for so long grow up {including your own!}

Matt is an all around amazing guy — everyone who knows him only has exceptional things to say about him and his family.  I’m so, so glad I was able to photograph him for his high school senior portraits!   Matt was actually a rep for me this year and we were able to shoot on two different occasions – once over the summer for these casual shots:

Spread One Matt

and then again during football season so we could get some locker room/football senior portraits and field shots —  LOVE how these turned out:

spread two matt

spread three matt

These were just so much fun!   Special thanks to Jami Cox for styling/makeup/lighting on these!

So, I’ve been inundated with 2016 Senior Rep questions as of late…… I am still working on the details for my model program for next year… it will be different than in year’s past….. and it will be super freakin cool.  I have some awesome stuff in the works — but not releasing any info or shoot dates just yet.  **If you want in, you need to be on my mailing list ——> CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP.   You’ll get all the details before anyone else!!

AND I’m also booking SPRING 2015 for Class of 2015 — these will sell out because I’m not offering a ton.  EMAIL ME to find out more.

It’s a great way to start their day!

I didn’t participate in Black Friday (didn’t even shop) but I really wanted to offer something for my amazing clients for Small Business Saturday.

This business is how I support my family.

When clients hire me to photograph their son or daughter for their Senior Portrait Experience, they are contributing to how I am able to keep food on the table, the lights in the house on, and clothes on their ever growing backs.  Small businesses are the backbone of this country… I am so incredibly proud to be a part of that!

SO, in appreciation, I am offering over 1/2 off any size canvas wrap from now till midnight, PST.     Any size, any print.  (some prices reflect almost 65% off)

Canvases are my number one seller, with custom designed albums coming in at a close second – these are HOT items.

Web-bestsellers11

Here’s how it works:

Click below to pay via paypal – scroll down until you see the size canvas you want; once you see it, click on the size and you will be prompted to pay via paypal.  Then:

CURRENT clients:  EMAIL ME regarding the photo you would like printed.  (we can also chat on the phone if that is easier!)  *note: no limit to how many current clients who have already placed orders with me can order.  If you have NOT placed an order, you can only pre-purchase this deal for ONE canvas.

FUTURE clients:  Yes, you can purchase this deal even if you haven’t shot with me yet.   You can pre-purchase the canvas now and apply it to your order later. *note: only one per future client

Choose your size

Again, thank you guys so much for your continued support…..I truly appreciate you!

Apparently the universe does NOT want me to get all the wedding pics from Chandler and Zach’s wedding online tonight… multiple computer crashes, etc.  :o

SO, here is a little somethin’ I put together in the interim with some of my fav shots …. tells the story quite well I think!  And TOMORROW morning.. those photos will be online, I swear!

It’s a great way to start their day!

I absolutely love shooting out of town Senior Portrait clients …. I love that they find me on google and choose me.  Yeah, I said it.  It feels good to be chosen, right?

But really… I love meeting and spending time with them.  All my sessions are experiences – and I always come away from them feeling happier….more connected….more calm – relaxed even!   We all have those days – when life is chaotic and honestly, I don’t know HOW I’m gonna pull this together…but inevitably, on the way home, Jami and I will reflect on how freakin’ awesome that just was.

This session was just that.

Freakin’ awesome.

Connected.  Happy.  Fun.

Kyra is 2015 Senior from Washington {state} and I was lucky enough to photograph her and her amazing sisters this past summer for her Malibu Senior Portraits.   They are all beautiful — I think they look like fairy princesses in their little white dresses and flower crowns :)

SistersLRWM-9

I also made Kyra a flower crown after discussing different options with her mom via email; I just love how it turned out…. suited her perfectly, don’t ya think?

KyraLRWM-45

She is STUNNING to photograph – obviously… such beautiful features  {Jami was in love with her eyebrows, no surprise there!  And did such a fantastic job on simply enhancing her natural beauty}.  Kyra is an athlete but ….. she definitely knows how to work a camera as well.   She was a dream to shoot….

And I’m so glad we got some shots of her with her sisters Kylie and Chloe … they are all so photogenic and fun — we were able to get some shots with gorgeous greenery and natural surroundings – AND California beaches … the right mix of both!

sisterslrwrm-1

as always, feel free to click and share these!

Just love them…

Now that my senior summer is winding down and we are FINALLY getting cooler weather here, I’m having a chance to try and catch up on blogging some of the awesome sessions I’ve had!

Update:       2014 is booked but I do have openings for SPRING sessions for 2015 Seniors – click the pic to find out more

For the photographer friends reading, this session was shot with a Nikon D800 and mainly the Nikon 85mm 1.4 lens, with the 35mm thrown in there too.  Mostly all natural light, but 2 Westcott Ice Lights were also used for the beach shots.   xo, R

It’s a great way to start their day!

So excited to finally blog Peyton’s fun session that we shot here in Santa Clarita!   She opted for the Model Session and was able to fit in six outfit changes and got pampered by the glam goddess, Jami Cox with killer hair and makeup too.  I love how Jami kept Peyton as natural as possible, while adding just enough to make her images pop!

PeytonBlog-41

These are some of her favorite shots and the ones she chose for her gorgeous custom 40 page Model Album and her canvases & announcements as well!

How STUNNING is Peyton?!!   Right?!   I just loved spending the day with her and her Mom, and we had a blast at her ordering session as well – the whole family was there to help decide on what to get :)  I’m super excited to get all their goodies to them – everything should be in very soon!

Also?  I cannot believe that it’s already mid-October!!!  Seems just like yesterday I was returning from Senior’s Ignite in Vegas with my winning model, Devan and prepping for a killer 2015 Senior Summer.   Now I’m completely booked for 2014 – so 2015 Seniors –> you need to get on my books NOW for your SPRING session because they will sell out as well.  Email me for all the info!!   I just got back from an amazing time with my fellow Senior’s Ignite Masterminds and Lead Shooters – we were down in Alys Beach, FL, soaking up some sun and planning the 2015 Senior’s Ignite in San Diego.  I can’t go into all the details here, but just know that we are going to have an amazing event!!  Are you joining us??  Only a handful of seats left!

The rest of this month will be spent catching up on editing and putting some thought and effort into my Model Rep Program….I’m gonna change it up next year so if you want to make sure you get all the info as it’s released {and get on my VIP list}, click HERE to send me your info!

I’m only taking a limited number of reps and senior sessions next year so you’re going to want to be up to date on what’s happening around here.

It’s a great way to start their day!

What can I say…. when you have a model as gorgeous as this…. it’s hard to take a bad pic.  I mean seriously…

SOPHIA_WEB-32

Sophie is ridiculously beautiful – and SO fun to shoot.  She’s just the sweetest!!  I had the pleasure of photographing her older {equally gorgeous} sister Emma in 2011 :)   We shot Sophie’s session in Malibu at a favorite spot of mine that is both beach and beautiful gardens, flowers, etc. – I just love the colors in her session.

{as always, feel free to pin and share}

SOPHIA_WEB-2

I made this flower crown for her that day (it’s actually the same one I did the tutorial on) and it looked sooooo good with that Free People dress!!  She looks like a fairy!

SOPHIA_WEB-20

SOPHIA_WEB-16

SOPHIA_WEB-37

Jami did a wonderful job on her makeup and kept her pretty natural — and I love how the makeup changed with each outfit….with minimal changes on Jami’s end….just a simple lip color change or eye makeup enhancing and voila’ – a whole different look!   These in the hat … I die.  I mean, those shoes, that dress, everything… just worked so well!!!

SOPHIA_WEB-34

I loved all her outfits — she had a great range of beautiful colors and different looks – that’s what so great about the Model Session; we have more time to create many different looks!  We even had time for a few cheerleader shots

SOPHIA_WEB-46

And she even brought her boyfriend for a few at the end — he’s too darn cute not to put in there after all :)  How adorable are they?!

SOPHIA_WEB-70

 and check out her slideshow:

I have had SUCH a great summer shooting all my 2015 #rbmodels  — I can’t believe I’m booking January – April now…. I do have a couple of open spots for November but that’s IT for 2014!!!!!

If you want to get on my calendar, email or call soon so you can secure a spot before they all fill up!  renee@reneebowen.com  800-957-1684
