Bailey | Saugus High, 2014 Grad

Posted on Apr 16, 2014

Love, love, love when I get to photograph the second – or third – sibling to a previous senior!  I had the pleasure of shooting Camille, Bailey’s sister a couple of years ago, and was so excited I got to work with this awesome family again ;)

Bailey… is just crazy pretty…. like it’s insane.  SO photogenic and so much fun – we had a blast and I’m super excited to share these with the world…..she’s a 2014 Grad from Saugus High here in Santa Clarita!

How beautiful is she?!   (and Jami Cox worked her amazing makeup artistry magic, as usual)

Thanks, Bailey – it was so much fun & I loved creating your grad announcements and canvas order as well – and I hope you have a great time in New Zealand and Australia!!!!

Devan – 2014 Model Winner | Santa Clarita Senior Portraits

Posted on Mar 16, 2014

I managed to blog a few of my favorites from this year’s Senior’s Ignite experience, but I wanted to dedicate an entire post to Devan…. she was such a trooper and SO amazing for all the photographers at the event.  SO many photographers mentioned how wonderful she was to work with – how EASY it is to photograph her because she is just GORGEOUS, but also a super sweet girl who is willing to go the extra mile to get that awesome shot!

I wish I could sum it up for you all, but it’s hard to find the words to really explain how truly amazing the entire experience was….. from photographing these incredible models from all over the country in a ghost town in the desert, to the lovely Westin Lake Las Vegas that was our home for a week, to all the awesome photographers I had the chance to meet and connect with as an Event Leader and Official Shooter… just too hard to put it all in words!!

Devan posted the sweetest note after the event and I wanted to share her thoughts on her entire Senior Portrait experience with me and Senior’s Ignite:

I am so happy I had Renee take my Senior pictures.  She was able to capture my personality perfectly, from the hair to the makeup to the location.   Renee worked with me on all of the outfit choices, from head to toe!  She even hand made some accessories for me to wear!  Renee made me feel comfortable and relaxed during our session, and we had a ton of fun!  From the moment Renee and  makeup artist Jami arrived to start my makeup, the laughter began!  The day was perfect!  Renee made my Senior pictures something I will cherish for years to come.
As a Senior Model rep, I also had the amazing experience of being chosen a 2014 Seniors Ignite National Model winner!  I traveled with Renee and Jami to Las Vegas to shoot with various photographers from all over the country!  I met so many awesome people and made lifelong friends with the other model winners.  Without Renee’s talent and vision, I would not have had that experience.  It was something I will never forget and I will be forever thankful to Renee!
Love that girl….  but seriously, she was a trooper –  this was the very last shot I took of her at the event – and I made her get in the pool!  LOL  she was awesome
I decided after learning that we would be shooting at the ghost town, that I would make a burlap, tattered dress for her to wear for the concept portion of the event.  That’s what is soooo cool about this entire thing – we get to create and experiment and PLAY.  That’s what I love most about shooting High School Seniors and being a Senior Portrait Photographer - the fun!!!   I was also lucky to have the incredible talents of Hope Shoemaker from Sam Villa, Las Vegas for hair styling and I brought Jami Cox with me to the event so she could share her makeup awesomeness with everyone at SI!
These are some of my favorites from that portion:  (feel free to pin)

Gah…. I just loved this – we both had so much fun!!   Then we headed back to the Westin and we decided we would get some different looks for her portfolio – something more fashion/more glam:

Could she be any more beautiful?  omg

So sad it’s all over for this year!!!  BUT I’m super excited that I will be at next year’s event in San Diego as a lead shooter again, and also as a Senior’s Ignite Mastermind!   I hope I get another winner – would be the third year in a row!!  *crosses fingers*

Sweet Sixteen | Santa Clarita Teen Photographer

Posted on Feb 7, 2014

It would have been awesome enough to photograph Courtney by herself for her Sweet Sixteen portrait session, but she brought along not one, but two of her horses (the third was not up to being on camera)  :)

And…..seriously what amazing horses these are – SO photogenic!

They are just the sweetest!  And Courtney… beautiful.  Jami Cox did a fantastic job with your hair and makeup too!

Soooo many favorites in her session – click on the photos to see them larger and as always, feel free to share and pin :)

Hard to choose favorites, really – they all did such a great job!   A photoshoot with two horses isn’t easy but love the shots we got!  Thanks, Courtney, for allowing me to capture your Sweet Sixteen session!

Check out the slideshow too:

Vintage Vegas | Part Two — Behind the Scenes

Posted on Jan 29, 2014

I’m in awe over the response I received over Part One of this post – Devan’s Vintage Vegas or Bust Photoshoot!    Sooooo many kind words – thank you guys :)  I am getting super excited for Senior’s Ignite – and it’s coming up FAST….. I am working on a {slightly crazy} but fun idea for Devan’s shoot with me while there…..hoping I can actually pull it off!

I wanted to show you all a little snippit of some behind the scenes video and stills – so I created a slideshow with them, and a few of my favorite shots from the session, using Animoto Pro (love them, by the way!)   And because they partner with Triple Scoop Music, I was able to pair this little vid with some fun retro tunes!

Check it out and let me know what you think!

If you’re looking for more than your average Senior Portraits, email me for info – spots are basically full now for 2014 but I might be able to squeeze you in if you contact me right away.

And if you’re a 2015 Senior, you gotta check out my Senior Model program!   So fun – and you get discounted sessions + all sorts of perks!

Vegas or BUST! | Senior’s Ignite National Model Winner Devan {Part ONE}

Posted on Jan 27, 2014

I have wanted to style and photograph a Vintage shoot for awhile now….but it’s been done….well, a LOT.   So I wanted to actually have it MEAN something.

One night, about two weeks ago, while lying in bed around 3am with thoughts dancing in my brain (as usual), it hit me.

Vegas or BUST!

How fun would it be to style a shoot for my Senior’s Ignite National Model Winner Devan - in the theme of Vegas?  (since that’s where we’re going on February 22nd for the Event!)    Sometimes I have good ideas ;)

Of course when I approached Jami about this, she nearly passed out – she’s been dying to do hair and makeup for a vintage shoot!   I knew I wanted to keep it simple and youthful… but wanted to give it that fun, Vegas feel too.  So I put together some ideas and enlisted Jami’s help via pinterest so we could collaborate.   (psst…I’m working on a behind the scenes video that will be Part TWO of this posting… check back in a couple of days for that).

And THEN, I found out that Devan’s grandfather owns this plane:

And this truck:

So then I got excited ;)

And here is what we came up with:  (click on the images to see them larger)

I am so in love with these….

She is just stunning!

I die.

As you can tell, I wanted to give some of these a vintage feel and processed them that way; but some of them… the color was just too awesome and I didn’t want to mute them too much….

I was so happy the sun finally came out…. it was a super dreary day till about 4pm.  As a location shooter ONLY, these are things I’m always dealing with – we have MONTHS of sun and then the one day I want to shoot and plan it…. it’s literally raining.  Thankfully, this doesn’t happen too often out here in SoCal, but it does happen and sometimes you just have to wing it!  This is when you need to rely on your camera skills….you’ve got to be able to pull it off – the day I shot Kiley‘ Senior Portraits, it was SUPER rainy, but they’re also some of my favorite shots I’ve taken ;)

I can’t WAIT to go to Vegas with Devan – she is going to have SO much fun modeling for such amazing photographers from all over the country!!!   She even has a chance to win a session with Lindsay Adler!

OMG, this must happen – you can help by voting for her every day till January 31st over at The Senior’s Ignite Models Contest Page!!!

And if you are a 2015 Senior, you should apply to be a 2015 Renee Bowen Spokesmodel – YOU could win a trip to Senior’s Ignite just like Devan and Madi!   Click this link to submit yourself:   MODEL APPLICATION and you could be featured here next year!  I have so much fun styling sessions for my models – it’s perfect for High School Seniors who more than just the average yearbook shot!

Okay, check back on Wednesday for some behind the scenes video on how I put this session together!!

Gorgeous Family…..Surprise Proposal? | Santa Clarita Portrait Photographer

Posted on Jan 14, 2014

This is just…..such a special session.  I’ve had the pleasure of photographing two of these beautiful Boggio sisters for their Senior Portraits (and headshots for another…..and I get the youngest one soon when SHE’S finally a high school senior!)  So when their Mom Laura, amazing hair stylist extraordinaire and co-owner of Tranquility Salon asked me to photograph her family portraits … and told me that Chandler’s boyfriend Zach would be PROPOSING to her during the session, I nearly died from the excitement – and stress!  LOL

I mean, I couldn’t mess this up – talk about pressure!   I asked my friend Julie to second shoot for me (under the guise of “she’s getting behind the scenes shots of me shooting for my website”) so I could be sure and get ALL the reactions to, as well as the actual proposal.

So the session started off just as normal as most large, beautiful family sessions do…. with lots of group shots and fun

and then this happened……

meanwhile, the family is watching…..

so then we had to take some more photos of course ;)

What an amazing thing to be a part of!!!  Thank you guys, for having me photograph this… wishes for a long, happy life together!!
